Description

Grandma’s Pizza is a thin, rectangular pizza with a crispy, olive-oil-infused crust, a flavorful tomato sauce, and a generous topping of mozzarella. It’s baked in a sheet pan, making it a perfect crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (plus more for greasing)

For the Sauce:

  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

For the Toppings:

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)
  • Extra olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:

    • In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth.
    • Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise for 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
  • Make the Sauce:

    • In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
    • Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Let simmer for 15–20 minutes, then set aside.
  • Prepare the Pizza:

    • Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking sheet with olive oil.
    • Stretch the risen dough to fit the pan, pressing it gently into the corners. Let it rest for 10–15 minutes.
    • Spread an even layer of tomato sauce over the dough. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
    • Drizzle with olive oil.
  • Bake:

    • Bake for 20–25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and crispy.
    • Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
  • Serve:

    • Garnish with fresh basil, slice into squares, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Let the dough rest in the fridge overnight for extra flavor.
  • Use a well-oiled pan for that signature crispy crust.
  • Add toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms, or anchovies for variation.
