Description
These homemade Cinnamon Raisin Bagels are perfectly chewy, slightly sweet, and full of warm cinnamon spice. They are great toasted with butter or cream cheese for breakfast or a snack!
Ingredients
- Bread flour
- Cinnamon
- Salt
- Granulated sugar
- Active dry yeast
- Warm water
- Honey
- Raisins
- Brown sugar or honey (for boiling)
- Egg (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions
1. Preparing the Dough
In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and a little sugar, letting it sit until foamy. In another bowl, combine flour, salt, cinnamon, and the remaining sugar. Gradually add to the yeast mixture, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
2. Kneading the Dough
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about ten minutes until smooth and elastic. Add raisins during the kneading process to ensure even distribution.
3. First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
4. Shaping the Bagels
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then use your finger to poke a hole through the center. Stretch the hole gently to shape the bagels.
5. Second Rise
Arrange the shaped bagels on a lined baking sheet and let them rest for about fifteen minutes while you prepare the boiling water.
6. Boiling the Bagels
Bring a large pot of water to a gentle boil and add honey or sugar. Carefully drop the bagels into the boiling water, cooking them for one minute per side.
7. Baking the Bagels
Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Transfer the boiled bagels to a baking sheet and bake for twenty to twenty-five minutes, until golden brown.
8. Cooling and Serving
Remove the bagels from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving with butter, cream cheese, or your favorite spread. Enjoy!
